Potremmo intitolare questo post “Non solo Greenaway”!… Anno 1986: il compositore Michael Nyman realizza un’opera dal titolo The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat tratta dall’omonimo saggio di Oliver Sacks, da cui viene tratta (l’anno successivo) questa TV Opera, esperimento di un’opera realizzata sul modello dei film per la TV.

A television adaptation of Michael Nyman’s 1986 opera The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat, based on the book of the same name by neurologist Oliver Sacks. Directed by the librettist Christopher Rawlence, the 1987 film features the original cast reprising their stage roles with tenor Emile Belcourt as the Neurologist, baritone Frederick Westcott as Dr. P, and soprano Patricia Hooper as Mrs. P. In addition to performing the music, members of the Michael Nyman Band appear in uncredited roles as Dr. P’s students. Pathologist John Tighe as well as Oliver Sacks himself also appear in segments to provide commentary on the case.
